Teenage marriage, fertility, and well-being: panel evidence from India

This working paper by Young Lives looks at the predictors and consequences of teenage marriage and pregnancy in India.

Young Lives uses unique data from India to study the predictors and consequences of teenage marriage and pregnancy by asking three key questions.

First, what predicts getting married during the teen years? Second, what predicts having given birth by 19? And third, does the well-being and psychosocial outcomes of married young women differ from those of their unmarried peers?

This is the first time that this type of analysis linking backgrounds and investments in the household with welfare and socio-emotional outcomes in the marital household has been available in this setting.
