In advance of the Girl Summit on Child Early Forced Marriage (CEFM) and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C), hosted by the UK government and UNICEF, Girls Not Brides UK makes recommendations to the UK government to end child marriage at home and globally by 2030.
In this new paper, Girls Not Brides UK highlights the links and similarities between the UK and international contexts of child marriage; the connections between child marriage and FGM; and the increased prevalence of child marriage in emergency settings.
This paper calls for urgent action from governments and civil society to join together to develop a coordinated approach to tackle these often inter-related social injustices and the gender inequality which causes them and affects girls worldwide.
The specific recommendations are to the Department for Education, Home Office, and Department for International Development.
